Viticulture in Brazil is the result of a multitude of influences and imports.

The foreign influences were major in the 16th century with the Portuguese colonists, then it was the Spaniards in the 17th century and finally the Italian immigrants who arrived in the 19th century who perfected these cultures.

For white wines, it is mainly Trebbiano Poverella, Malvasia, Riesling, Sémillon and Chardonnay.

Since the 1970’s, the hilly and cool region of Serra Gaúcha has become a land of quality sparkling wines. It produces bubbles based on Chardonnay, Italian Riesling and Pinot Noir which have won multiple medals in international competitions.
